WELCOME!

We're excited to have you join us on a once in a lifetime trip.  Read below for more details on how to prepare, and what to expect.

We’re excited for your visit to the Hook ‘n Horn fishing camp.  Our camp managers Jerry & Vicky McDonald will have everything ready for you, so you can enjoy the beautiful Canadian wilderness and catch some shore lunch and maybe even a trophy to hang on the wall.

The Hook ‘n Horn was established in 1946, and is 28 nautical miles Northeast of Nestor Falls, Ontario.  A short flight in by float plane that drops you off at Rowan Lake, Ontario, a world class Musky lake.  We also catch lake trout, large and smallmouth bass, northern pike and walleye.  Light walleye tackle (8lb- test line) is recommended for all species unless you want to hunt the elusive Musky, then we recommend a heavy bait casting rig with 20lb braided line.  Beside your tackle, all you need to bring is a rain suit, layers of clothing for warmth and an attitude for adventure.  The float plane has a luggage weight limit of 60 pounds, so no need for bulky clothes or heavy tackle boxes!

A couple things you need to know about travel into Canada:

  • Covid requirements for Canada as of May 19, 2022, are a Covid vaccination card (1 dose Johnson & Johnson or a 2 dose Moderna or Pfizer) along with completing the ArriveCAN  declaration form.  You will need to download the ArriveCAN app to your phone.  The ArriveCAN form will require you to enter your passport information and upload your vaccination card and answer questions.  You cannot complete the entire declaration form until within 72 hours of your arrival into Canada.  Please visit www.travel.gc.ca for ArriveCAN information.  One of the questions will ask where you plan to cross into Canada.  If you are going to cross at International Falls, it will be the Fort Frances Bridge.  If you plan to cross in Baudette, it will be Rainy River

  • You need a passport

  • If you have had a DUI in the last 10 years, they won’t let you into Canada

  • You can bring a fifth of alcohol in and a carton of cigarettes duty free per person.  Stop at the International Falls duty free store at the border

  • You need to purchase both the Outdoor Card and fishing license on-line in advance of your trip

  • Covid requirements in Canada can change at any time.  Please make sure and check the requirements before you enter Canada

We have arranged your flight into camp by Nestor Falls Fly-In.  The right turn to the air service is just before the Nestor Falls visitor center on the south side of town just before you enter Nestor Falls city limits.  Please arrive before/by noon for your flight into Hook ‘n Horn.

We will have beer and non-alcoholic beverages in camp. You will need to bring in a good bottle of alcohol for the bar in the lodge.  We recommend Tito’s, Crown Royal, Captain Morgan, Dewar’s, Jameson, Wiser’s or Bailey’s.

All our cabins have linens, towels, and showers, so you won’t be roughing it.  The sauna will be available for you to sooth your aching arms and back every evening and the bar will be open till ten for a night cap.  We ask that you please use the front door to enter the lodge, no smoking in the buildings and only toilet paper in the commodes.  The generator shuts off at 10:00pm each night and starts again at 6:00am.
